Articles in professional magazines

Professional magazines BETONI lehti, number 3/2014 and RIA rakennusinsinöörit ja arkkitehdit lehti, number 4/2014 both published my interview and articles about the concrete symposium that I took part in August. So cool to pose with workwear and cap and tell about my research within concrete and molding techniques.

Nordic Olo

Always a pleasure to work with Japanese people. Now I am happy to introduce myself as the designer of Nordic Olo, http://www.posjapan.co.jp/Ndo.html

EcoDesign exhibition at Habitare

It is that time of the year that Helsinki is full of design. Helsinki Design Week started last week and yesterday was the opening of  Habitare fair. My impact this year is the concrete surfaces on show in EcoDesign exhibition. These are the surfaces in form of the tiles I made in The International Concrete Symposium held this August. EcoDesign exhibition take place in Ahed area Hall 6. Beside my tiles I present some ideas how these surfaces could be used in architecture and in build environment.  So excited get some feedback…

International Concrete Symposium 2014

Whole last week I was privilege to take part of the International Concrete Symposium held in beautiful Älgsjö/Elisaari island in the southern coast of Finland. We were ten artists and designers from Germany and Finland learning and creating new things around concrete. It was fascinating to learn about moulds, casting, aggregates, retarders etc. And it was super cool to see how my designs work with this material.

Many thanks to the organizers; Rudus, Consolis, The Finnish Concrete Association and Ornamo. It was a great week full of new information, knowledge and new artist friends!

“My style” at Deko magazine

The latest issue of DEKO magazine 6/14 is worth of flicking and reading because it is full of nice articles about summer homes and country living. On the last page of this magazine there is a little interview about me and my style. If you would like to know what excites me and what colors meant to you can read the interview here.

Flying carpets at Helsinki Airport

One of my latest assignment was to design blue and white rag rugs for the lounge furniture for Helsinki Airports newly opened “SUOMI SPACE”. This relax area for Finavia Finnair passenger is next to the gate 31 and the space is designed and furnished by Studio Kaarle Holmberg and Interior Architects Fyra.

The rag rugs and the blue-white color represents Suomi Finland – land of the thousand lakes. 100% cotton rugs are beautifully woven by Marjaana from MattoBaakari.

Take a break and fly with these blue-white carpets if you happens to be near gate 31.

Wall rug DAWN – study with leftover yarns

Last weeks I have been working with some leftover yarns and colors that are not usual for me (i.e. pink!). The result of my research is this small wall rug DAWN.

The process of knotting has been interesting and surprising. I had my doubts about the pink but right now I find great potential on this color.  PINK / ROSE / PUCE and all it’s tones and shades are sensual and when mixing it with greys the result can be quite aesthetic…

Homecrafts Finland

Latest MODA magazine wrote about my co-operation with Homecrafts Finland. I designed three hand woven cushion covers for them by reforming the old weaving technique called “helmipoiminta”. This technique was quite popular in the 1940/50′s – and we are hoping to make it popular again with these new designs.

Photo shooting new KAINU rug

Friday morning I was at Tosikuva working with Jarkko my trusted photographer. It is always very fascinating to take photos of the new products ( it is always super fascinating to create new products !).  To photo shoot textiles needs a certain talent and special lights. This time one challenging item was the new KAINU wool rug.

The material for this new rug is 100% finnish lambs wool felt from KULTAVILLA, who knows everything about the lambs wool and felting process. The Kultavilla felt is so super soft and rug woven of this luxurious material under the feet is warm, smooth and so homely that you want to lay down on it. The rug is handwoven with love by Kainuun Pirtti. It is nice to take part of these co operation projects where different specialists work together and share their knowledge, this time it was around the finnish lambswool.

Appearance in business magazines

Time flies… This year has started well with new interesting projects and inspirational trips abroad (New York, Stockholm..) New projects and products are under process but meanwhile I am happy to re present my huge wall rug SAMMALSEINÄ – you may remember it. Sammalseinä rug is of current interests since photos of it was just published in two business magazines. OPTIO magazine even wrote an article about ryijy and Suomen Käsityön Ystävät . You can read the article here.
