Vancouver Interior Design Show Sept 20-23

One of the autumns most interesting happening is “What the Hell” exhibition in IDS Vancouver and taking part of it. HELENIUS & RENVALL CREATIVE will showcase in this exhibition in Canada an art design object “THE SEED” designed for  Tales by Trees as well as the rugs SPRING and SUMMER from 4 Seasons Collection. We are very happy to be part of this selected objects exhibition.

How are the current interiors and design trends related to larger political, social and digital changes in the world?

To answer this question, IDS Vancouver is presenting  ‘What the HEL from Finland,’ a trend installation showcasing Finnish design, mixing visual and societal trends in a narrative, surprising, ambient and multidisciplinary way. Curated by trend analyst Susanna Björklund, the feature explores the way boundaries between trends are blurring. Given the escalating digitalization resulting in strong countertrends and shifting values, the exhibit poses the question: can local design still be distinguishable from global design?

Summer exhibition in Sweden

(photos Liina Blom)

TEXO, the association of Finnish textile artists, went abroad. The JOHTOLANKA exhibition that was on Tampere Vapriikki Art Center last winter is now rebuild in Sweden. JOHTOLANKA / LEDRÅD exhibition at Rydals Art Museum was opened on the 3rd of June  and it is on until the 19th September. If you are planning to travel on summer holidays Skåne in Sweden is nice and considerable destiny. I am taking part to the exhibition with my plywood weaving “Brown” that is the square shaped artwork on the photo at right.

Finland meets Turkey, Helsinki meets Istanbul

I am so excited; I got invited to be a quest speaker in Istanbul Home Textile Fair EVTEKS Trend Seminar on the May 16th. Really looking forward to go there and talk about textiles and inspiration. I will do my best to inspire Turkish audience. And I bet it will super inspiring for me too to see lots of Turkish textiles and hopefully a little bit of Istanbul too.

PS. A short addition after returning back home: Istanbul was great! The EVTEKS Fair very worth of visit, the city with its monuments breathtaking beautiful and the food…delicious. I really hope that one day I have a possibility to go back. More photos INSTAGRAM @studioelina

Echoes Finland

Just visited Warzava Poland first time in my life. The reason was the opening ceremony of the exhibition ECHOES, 100 Years in Finnish Design and Architecture in POLIN MUSEUM. Great exhibition, curated by Laura Isoniemi, in absolutely remarkable museum by Finnish architect Rainer Mahlamäki. I am honored that my Lusto rug was selected in the exhibition.
